City of St. John's  - Newfoundland

Canada's City of Legends

In June 2000, we boarded an Air Canada aircraft bound for St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.

We enjoyed a luxurious Bed and Breakfast lodging experience at the Winterholme Heritage Inn.  The Winterholme Inn is located in the East End Heritage District of St. John's.

We stayed in the "Oval Suite", which was the master bedroom of the original owners.  The suite included a King-Size Bed, Double Jacuzzi and Fireplace.
We enjoyed the luxurious furnishings in the dining room each morning as we were served a delicious breakfast  by the owners.

Our first sightseeing trip was to Signal Hill, a National Historic Site of Canada.  From up on the hill, you can enjoy a spectacular view of St. John's and the Atlantic Ocean.

It was here on Signal Hill,  that Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless signal on December 12, 1901.

There is an extensive walking trail, called the Lookout Trail, on the summit of Signal Hill

When ships arrived, their arrival was conveyed to the town by a series of flag signals.  Hence the name of Signal Hill.

Signal Hill is Canada's second largest National Historic Site.

The view from the hill is spectacular showing the harbour and the adjacent coastline.
