Cut Flowers  for Floral Arrangements

I have suggested some flowers you might want to grow in your garden for the purpose of having flowers available for indoor enjoyment.  Some are bulbs which you plant and enjoy year after year.  Others are annuals and perennials which you can start from seed or purchase from your local nursery.

Lilies are easy to grow and come in a variety of colors.  They make excellent cut flowers for your home.  They may last up to a week in a vase.
Lilies are purchased as bulbs which can be planted in the Autumn before the ground freezes or in the Spring.  Asiatic Lilies, Orientals and Trumpet varieties are all readily available.  They bloom from early to late summer depending on the variety.  They can be purchased from any nursery or gardening centre.  Once planted, they will provide years of enjoyment and will even multiply!

Calendulas come in oranges and yellows.  They are easy to grow.  They make a vivid cut flower for floral arrangements.
Phlox is a fragrant perennial which is a favorite of many gardeners.  It is a tall flower and usually comes into bloom in August in my zone 5 garden.  You can purchase the perennial plants from your garden center.  It comes in a variety of colors and cultivars.  They do self-seed, so you can multiply your supply by transplanting new plants as they grow.  Usually spring is the best time to transplant phlox.
