Gardening is a creative challenge and allows one to experience the beauty of nature in a very practical hands-on way!
Much enjoyment and a real sense of accomplishment can be obtained from growing your own perennials and annuals from seed. I believe you will develop a deeper appreciation for your garden and your individual plants, as you watch the transformation from seed to mature specimens.
You can enjoy a greater variety of perennials and annuals, when you cultivate your own seeds rather than purchasing plants from your local nursery. The difference in money spent can also be quite significant.
I have a page of links, sites which I have found quite
beneficial in learning more about growing from seed, and in the ongoing
cultivation of different plants - such as perennials, annuals, roses,
peonies and iris.
I live in Southern Ontario and over the last ten years or so have developed an avid interest in gardening. Our zone is listed as zone 5 with four
distinct seasons of growing which range from freezing temperatures to tropical. This is a picture of our back yard..
Over the last few years, I have expanded my garden to include some
roses and peonies. I enjoy the challenge of trying something new.
I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures and are inspired to expand your
garden with new plant acquisitions which you might have been hesitant to
try, due to lack of experience or just thinking they are too finicky!
This is a picture of a Tree Peony - Shimadaijin - which I planted about
six years ago. It is virtually maintenance free! Last
year it had over 50 blooms.
